Annie Wright Celebrates 100th May Day

Rex Bates
This year marked the 100th Anniversary of Annie Wright Schools’ most treasured tradition, May Day. During the weekend of Friday, June 1st through Sunday, June 3rd Annie Wright students, alumni, family members, friends, faculty and staff joined together to celebrate this milestone. As the rain passed and the sun shone, the event festivities began with the procession of our graduating seniors followed by grade level and all school performances on the school’s front lawn.

On Friday evening many alumni gathered for an Alumni Cocktail Party in the Great Hall where alumni were encouraged to dress in the decade of their graduating year. Saturday morning began with an Alumni Chapel Service administered by the Reverend Rebecca Kirkpatrick ’97. Alumni then joined together again in the Great Hall for class photos, conversation and merriment, and a state of the school address from Head of School, Christian Sullivan. Throughout the weekend more than 200 alumni from the class of 1941 to the class of 2011 enjoyed historical memorabilia displays and the company of their friends and classmates who live locally and around the world.

Later Saturday afternoon Upper School students gathered for their Awards Celebration. The graduating class then planted a tree in front of the school in their honor. The festivities concluded with the commencement of the seniors on Sunday morning. Thank you to all who joined us in celebration of our 100th Anniversary of May Day and congratulations to the graduating class of 2012!
