From Classrooms to the World: How AWS Students Are Learning Without Limits

Can you believe we’re already into December of the 2024-2025 school year? So much learning has already happened, and it’s not just in the classroom!

One thing that makes Annie Wright Schools stand out is that Grade 10 trips are included in tuition. While many schools treat travel as an extra cost, we see it as a vital part of a well-rounded education. We believe students should spend part of their learning journey out in the world—and travel plays a big role in that.

This year, our Grade 10 students have been all over the globe, visiting incredible places like Belize, Iceland, and Italy. Our Grade 11 and 12 Mock Trial students also recently traveled to the Netherlands. These experiences are more than just trips—they’re opportunities for our students to broaden their horizons and create memories that will last a lifetime.

"From creative projects to international travel, our students are embracing hands-on opportunities that connect them to the world around them," said Carie Ward, Director of Student Experience and Global Initiatives at AWS.

Meaningful learning opportunities also happen close to home. Through Annie Wright's (s)Elective program, students dive into immersive experiences tailored to their interests. Whether pursuing creative projects or connecting with the local community, our students are engaging in hands-on learning that brings their passions to life and deepens their understanding of the world around them. This fall, their journeys have been nothing short of inspiring:

  • Creative Writing students crafted the script for a campus-wide Murder Mystery event.
  • Fashion students embarked on a thrifting field trip, sourcing materials to design and create original clothing.
  • Future Health Professionals attended a leadership conference in Seattle, gaining insight into their potential career paths.
  • Sports Medicine students learned from guest speakers spanning various medical fields.
  • Inkwell, the school’s literary magazine, published its fall edition.
  • Community (s)Elective organized Chapel services and launched Community Day initiatives.
  • LABS and SL&G hosted highly anticipated events like Casino Night and Fright Night.
  • Automotive Arts made strides in engine mechanics, finally freeing the pistons in their engine project.
  • Model United Nations students participated in the local PACMUN conference and are preparing to travel to Washington, D.C., for the international NAIMUN conference in February.
As the seasons change, many (s)Electives are preparing for transformative spring learning experiences, set to take place the week before spring break.

  • Automotive Arts exploring the history and culture of cars in Detroit, MI.
  • Business students meeting industry leaders in Seoul, South Korea.
  • Community (s)Elective engaging with NGOs and local leaders in Anchorage, AK.
  • Creative Writing attending workshops at the Washington State Thespian Festival.
  • Inkwell documenting culture in São Paulo and visiting the State Press Museum in Brasília, Brazil.
